Biological Children Growing Up Alongside Foster Children

Biological children raised in a foster home are simply amazing individuals! There is not nearly enough attention given to the sacrifices of this unique group of people. Strong family bonds are what enable families to endure the challenges of having foster children placed in their home. We acknowledge that our biological children lived through many days that were out of their control. This type of unique upbringing is not always easy—as they will sacrifice a portion of their parents’ time and attention along the way. We often thank them for living in a home with an atmosphere of purposeful busyness and one that often requires extra work from them.

Foster children are very important in our lives, but having an intact, close-knit relationship with our biological children always remains our primary goal. Without a stable family of our own, we would be less helpful to the needs of the foster children and their families. Foster children's needs must be woven into the fabric of our family’s life, not the other way around where our family identity is lost in the process. We have all had the opportunity to help the children of the foster-care system and have witnessed tenfold the blessings brought to us.
